Who's this from? Captain Ratatype. Your humble servant, assistant, coach and your support team. For 13 years now, together with my assistants, I've been helping people master the ten-finger typing method. And I have plenty to tell you about this incredible skill. So, top questions about fast typing. Let's go!
— Does practicing fast typing really add efficiency to your work?
Short answer — yes. If you practice touch typing every day for at least 15 minutes over the course of a month, you increase your typing speed by 10-15%. And that's a truly real time saving. We've already calculated and proven it, that you can guaranteed save up to 20 days of your life per year, just by typing faster. Try starting the training, and you'll see for yourself.
— How many exercises should I do per day?
As many as you can, but it's better to complete at least one lesson at a time. Important: try to complete each exercise as well as possible — without typos, without mistakes and in one rhythm. On Ratatype, you can see your result after every exercise, and if it's not perfect, just do it again.
— Is it possible to learn to touch type by practicing fast typing on your own?
Theoretically — yes. But in reality it will be quite hard. The thing is, the main secret of fast typing is muscle memory. Your fingers themselves need to know which keys to press. And each finger is responsible for its own zone on the keyboard. That's exactly why it's important to practice fast typing using the correct method, rather than just typing a lot of text.
— Does anyone even type on a keyboard anymore, now that voice input, AI agents and so on have long been invented?
Even I typed this text to tell you about the benefits of typing :) Jokes aside, the time when we completely stop typing is still far, far ahead. Or maybe it will never come at all. But real jobs in hundreds of thousands of offices exist here and now. And if you want to study well, get the job of your dreams, be efficient and in demand, fast typing definitely won't stand in your way — quite the opposite, in fact.
— How do I present fast typing as an advantage on my resume?
Just present it as it is — simply list your lightning-fast typing speed among your other skills. Or even better — add a typing speed certificate to your resume. So your potential employer can immediately see that you're not just fast in words.
— Who needs a typing speed certificate?
It's easier to say who doesn't need it. Because there are practically no professions where you don't have to do anything on a keyboard. The more confirmed skills you have on your resume, the more chances you have of getting the job of your dreams. The typing speed test takes up to 5 minutes, and the certificate stays with you forever. In my opinion, that's an efficient investment of resources.
— Okay. I want to practice fast typing, what should I do?
Well, that's simple. You're already on Ratatype, so all that's left is to sign up, choose a course you want to learn with, and start practicing fast typing. Ideally — before training, take a typing speed test, so you can later track your progress. You should also switch up your activity from time to time and, instead of the trainer, play keyboard games, to improve your typing accuracy.
